We love Ricks and my daughter is thriving. She is outgoing in some areas and very shy in others and Ricks has been able to accommodate. This school is not for everyone and I find the administration to be helpful and caring. You get what you put into it.

Ricks Center has provided an excellent education in a caring environment for our children. Ricks isn't the right match for every child and every family, and I believe it is those families who have negative experiences and comments. For us, we have had nothing but positive experiences and highly recommend the wealth of knowledge, compassion and understanding of gifted children by the Ricks teachers and staff.

Actual Student at Ricks for 10 years. I must say that this is one of the best educations a child can receive.
Educator on 4/3/2008
It seems as though Ricks Center is highly selective based on whether a child is gifted and shy, or gifted and learning disabled, which surprises me given the numerous children with unique learning and social needs. Perhaps they are only able to educate gifted children who are socially and academically high functioning - who in my experience are rare.
Parent on 3/12/2008
In my opinion the biggest problem with Ricks Center is its administrative staff. I feel they are unresponsive and judgmental towards parents and children.
Student on 10/10/2007
I feel that the reason that Ricks has a mostly good high school acceptance rating is that the kids take it upon themselves to find other resources to learn. I also feel that the administration does not communicate well with parents.
Parent on 4/28/2006
While providing an excellent literary education, Ricks provides no social education for its students, especially those that are lagging behind socially. Teachers are very critical and do not follow through on feedback requests or promises made to parents. I would recommend another gifted school, one that is accredited such as Logan, instead. Although they state that they understand the needs and personalities of gifted kids, they only desire those that conform and are meek in personality.
Parent on 4/10/2005
Ricks Center is an incredible place for gifted kids to blossom without "feeling different" as they would at public schools. Our daughter has blossomed under the sophisticated program they've put together and the group of dedicated professional teachers who know when and how to push gifted kids and when to back off.

BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD! Norma Lu Hafenstien, the principal, has an alumni who has been to Harvard and Yale and thinks Ricks is the best!

I give this a 4 because it is a great school for education and social activities, but some of the teachers are a little too harsh.
