A Gebra Named Al

This book by author W. Isdell is for young adults. Julie hates algebra - until she meets Al, and the Periodic horses and they journey through the Land of Mathematics, where the Orders of Operations are real places and fruits that look like Bohr models grow on chemistrees. Wonderfully written and a joy to read, it's full of math and science basics made fun and accessible. This book is the stand-alone sequal to The Chemy Called Al.

I had to read this book for school and I would recommend this story.

I was disappointed in this book. It had the potential to be another "Phantom Tollbooth" but I found it very dull and contrived. The author went to great length to introduce all of her quirky characters, but the storyline did not engage me as a reader. I passed the book on to my 7 year old (who'd loved both the Phantom Tollbooth and the Number Devil) and he never made it past the first chapter. I think the young author had good ideas but did not execute them in a very interesting manner. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
