Project Title: “The Importance of Passion.” ______ _______ ________ ________ _______

Nathan’s project, “The Importance of Passion” analyzes and comments on his musical journey from the perspective of the components of success. The underlying message he wants to convey through the project emerged from his life story, rather than one specific event. Nathan believes that the key to finding success in life is to follow one’s passion and to pursue one’s love. In his own life he feels fortunate to have experienced success not more as a result of his passion for sharing musical experiences than mere technical mastery of the instrument. He has always loved that music as an evocative and communicative art form, in ways that are both human and humane, and has therefore tried to make music a space for emotional connections.

By sharing musical moments online via social media websites like YouTube and Facebook, Nathan has been able to engage with an unprecedented range of audience members from around the world, whose appreciation has been manifested in stunning and touching responses. He has found that modern day social media is a beautiful and powerful medium capable of establishing global camaraderie, even for those with limited resources. Nathan has shared musical moments online that have been viewed more than 1.25 million times. These musical moments have inspired others and have given Nathan reason to believe that pursuing your passion is the secret to finding success in life. As this realization dawned on him, his perspective on the world changed drastically, he began to understand the success of people such as Steve Jobs and Yo-Yo Ma as emanating from their love and passion of their crafts. By communicating this message to everyone, Nathan hopes that people all around the world can find meaning, purpose, inspiration and success in life.

Nathan has performed on “From The Top,” and with the San Francisco Symphony and Royal Philharmonic, and at Carnegie Hall. He is a student at the Columbia University-Juilliard School Exchange in New York City, where his focus is Economics and Cello.
