The Davidson Family Retreat is a new weekend event, exclusive to Young Scholar families, providing a more intimate and relaxed experience. Families stay on-site overnight for this weekend adventure. The Family Retreat focuses on self-discovery, family and community bonding, and growth.
In true retreat fashion, families joining us for this event will stay on-site overnight for the weekend, providing ample time for social activities geared with the whole family in mind. The Family Retreat weekend is packed with an abundance of fun and engaging activities for the whole family! Yes, this means that siblings of Davidson Young Scholars can attend and are included in ALL family and youth activities. Siblings ages 0-4 cannot participate in youth workshops and must be checked into our provided childcare services during parent/youth workshop times only. Please see our Family Retreat FAQs for more information. Parents are required to supervise all youth (Young Scholars and non-member siblings) at all times during the event, with the only exception occurring when youth and non-member siblings, ages 5-18, can be signed into workshops Saturday. Davidson Institute staff ARE NOT available to supervise youth at any other time during the Family Retreat.
The Family Retreat is hosted in Reno, Nevada on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, which is a public University campus that is very active during the summer weeks. Not only is the University an open campus to the Reno/Sparks area, but the University also hosts summer college classes and other summer programs which are often held during the same time and weekend. As a partner and affiliate of the University, we must agree to abide by all University policies during the Family Retreat weekend, and a main University policy is to ensure all minors are accompanied by a parent/guardian, for their safety, at all times.
Most activities and events are curated for the whole family. Workshop sessions on Saturday are separate curated offerings for youth or parents only.
