Edlin School (Reston, VA)

Edlin School is a private coeducational day school for grades K-8, located in Reston, Virginia. This school was established by two teachers with gifted children who found their needs were not being met in existing institutions. It is a nurturing place, relatively flexible, and quite small. There is a dress code; Willingness to make some accomodations for HG/EG/PG children.

This is my ninth year at Edlin and I love this school. When I went to Edlin, my first teacher in preschool was extremely nice, nurturing and kind. I would definitely recommend this school to parents who are looking for a school that is a tight community with small classes.

We've been at Edlin for the past two years and have loved it. The student teacher ratio is great and the teachers have been wonderful at redirecting, but not stifling, the curious mind of our little one. Her precocious nature and NEED to comprehend has been accommodated in a manner that does not leave her feeling silenced.

Form our experience, we have been disappointed in this school. We have been unhappy with class sizes and some instructors, as well as the facilities.

Suffice it to say that my two children came into the school at 4th and 2nd grade and are so ridiculously happy here at Edlin. They are being challenged academically, socially they've made some wonderful friends, the parents are funny, loving, and very involved, and the staff is TO DIE FOR!! What more could you want?? Don't be fooled by how it looks on the outside, I would recommend you come and sit and talk with one of the staff members and take a tour while the school is open. Many former Nysmith parents are here and they have mentioned that the quality of education is comprable if not better....I would HIGHLY recommend this school!!!

We moved our son to Edlin after he was miserable in public school for kindergarten and the start of first grade. He LOVES going to school now. I cannot say enough good things about this school and the teachers. If you have a gifted child I would strongly urge you to look here.

My daughter has attended Edlin since Kindergarten. It has been nothing short of a terrific experience for her. She has excelled on standardized tests and developed extremely strong leadership skills. Edlin not only emphasizes academics, but also treats children as individuals-- it imbues them with independence, confidence, and a real desire to succeed.

I have had 3 children go here with superior results! The older boy was accepted at every prep school he applied to and also Thomas Jefferson, as were his school friends - that should speak volumes! They have more kids being accepted at TJ than any other! This place is an undiscovered gem!

I think that this school has a great faculty and great courses, but the principles have problems to keep promises. This school was not very good for me because I was repeating courses from 2 years ago and last year!

Our two daughters have attend Edlin for the last two years, and we have been quite pleased with the strong curriculum, caliber of teachers and the social environment.
