I feel like I am not alone. Although I have my son in a great school system he has never really been challenged. Even after outside testing ABSOLUTELY said he needed to be in gifted classes we still had to jump through hoops to get him ther. When he gets ahead of the class he has been held back until they catch up. What is the point of gifted learning if they are not allowed to reach their potential?

I would like to speak on behalf of a parent of a gifted student. My daughter entered the gifted program in first grade. Now she is in the 7th grade in advanced classes. She is bored and reviews the same things constantly. I feel that she hasn't learned any new information in a while. She is not being challenged and doesn't feel the need to do the classwork. She is definitely not meeting her full potiental. Any suggestions!

The general feedback I get from fellow moms is that application and getting a child tested (even if the child have tested in another state before) takes a long process and jumping hoops. I would hope that assessing gifted kids' needs has expediency as assessing kids' with learning needs or language profeciency needs so that all can be nurtured to their learning potential without delay starting with kindergarten (there are many ways to test without a kid having to be proficient in reading and many kinds and levels of giftedness). Or is it that schools are not equipped with needed professional testers or professional gifted advocates? If not, schools should provide a list of qualified private testers or other websites to encourage gifted learners in reaching their potential with or without the help of public schools.

I have been teaching classes for the gifted learner (middle grades) for 5 years. For the last 2 years my classes have changed from Gifted to Advanced Classes and I serve 28-32 students in my 4 classes. Many of the students placed as AC are placed based upon a test score and motivation/creativity is not considered. Some of my 4 classes have 20 gifted/10 AC students and some a few as 9 gifted students and the rest AC. I have not heard a word of concern over this change from parents of gifted. Is there concern over this change? Are parents aware that their gifted students are not served as they once were?
