Both my children attended this school for 10 years and have gone on to excel in high school and college. Even though he was dyslexic, my son learned to read before he moved up to Lower Elementary. Thanks to the dedication of his teacher and the flexibility of the Montessori philosophy, they were able to find the learning style that worked best for him. Despite all his learning differences, my son always LOVED going to school. Due to the personalized and developmental approach of Montessori education, children progress at different rates and reach different stages of accomplishment at different times, it "follows the child" instead of forcing the child to try and be at the exact same level as everyone else simply because he/she is a certain age. We are very grateful that both our children were fortunate enough to attend this school. They have become compassionate, self-motivated, independent, learners and achievers.

We had both of our daughters at the school and I will not send my son there. The worst part for us was transferring our oldest to public first grade. We watched her struggle because she was so far behind in reading to the point that they were not going to promote her to 2nd grade until we put her through Sylvan. This is not an isolated story, I know several parents whose children have had to join special tutoring courses to get "caught up" to public.

I love this school! My son started at age 3 last year and we have seen such an improvement in his behavior. He is learning how to become independent and loves going to school. Most importantly he is happy. I plan on sending my other son to JMS when he turns three. I must add how important it is that parents educate themselves about Montessori. It's not all about academics - JMS focuses on the whole child.

This is a great school with great teachers. It may not offer EVERYTHING some bigger, older, more well-known private schools do, (a gym, an auditorium) but it is a Montessori school - the others aren't. Judson is the most well known Montessori school in central south Texas. It has a good reputation for a reason - it's a good school. If you hear about Montessori and are interested in the philosophy, look into Judson. If you don't know anything about Montessori, educate yourself. There are plenty of resources out there.

I agree with the comment listed by another parent. We have experienced the staff as being disconnected. Also, from our experience, this school needs to determine who its targeted demographic is: students who can excel or students whose families can afford the pricey tuition rates.

In my opinion, this school has a very low tolerance for anyone who learns differently. I would agree with a the previous comment as well: students were allowed to bully others without basic classroom management from the staff.

I attended the school for one year; I found the middle school faculty very unwilling to help a newcomer to a montessori system and tolerated students treating me and the other newcomers cruely. None of the newcomers in 6th grade year returned.

We are new to this area and prefer Montessori, but were not impressed with the staff at Judson. They seemed disconnected on a social level. Any other suggestions someone could post?

My two children love this school! Expectations are set high and students are given the resources, instruction, and autonomy to succeed. Curriculum is diverse and includes an exceptional foreign language and music program. Strong emphasis is placed on independent research skills, cooperation, and intrinsic motivation.

I am shocked by the one star rating given by a disgruntled visitor. From my first experience, three years ago, to the present time I have found unfailing courtesy, not only from the staff and faculty but from the students as well. The love of teaching and learning pervade the school and each child advances at his own speed. The very talented child is challenged daily. The school is dynamic and each year surpasses the past one.

Our two children have been involved with JMS for the past 7 years. Overall we have been extremely pleased with the staff, the program, the physical setting and the "village" approach to education.

High-quality, very flexible Montessori education with very high emphasis on respect for the child. Extraordinary acceptance of abilities throughout program, including music, foreign language, and main classroom. Classrooms exceedingly rich in learning material, allowance made for telescoping and acceleration in single class or advancement into higher class. High level of individual attention to each student.
