    National French Contest
    "Le Grand Concours, or National French Contest, is a French event in the form of a 60 minute national examination, designed, written, financed, and disseminated by the members of the American Association of Teachers of French. Its purpose is to help stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of French and to help identify and reward achievement on the part of both students and teachers."

    Diverbo Pueblo Ingles Teens allows students between the ages of 13 and 17 to teach English in Spain. There is no cost for teens to attend, other than the cost of travel to the location.

    Language Link is a leader in Spanish language immersion programs in countries throughout Latin America and Spain. Participants are provided a safe and reliable way to arrange their Spanish study adventure.
    The Lukeion Project
    The Lukeion Project specializes in the Classical world offering college-preparatory courses in Classical Latin, Classical Greek, Classical Literature in translation, Greek & Roman History, Mythology, Word Roots, English Grammar and Classical Archaeology to learners around the globe through live, online classes (these are not recordings, chat rooms, or do-it-yourself distance learning).

    Okasan and Me Inc.
    This organization offers a Gifted and Talented Children's Program that is in alignment with state standards in San Jose, Los Angeles and Honolulu. While knowledge of the Japanese language is not necessary for the program, Japanese terminology is incorporated into computerized RobotoTRONICS where children use their imagination to create computerized action robots. The program addresses the creative and emotional well being of the gifted child, providing a supportive network for parents.

    Ascanius: The Youth Classics Institute
    Ascanius: The Youth Classics Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge of and inspiring lifelong learning about Latin, Greek, and the ancient Greco-Roman world, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. To accomplish its goals, Ascanius maintains a number of programs. The centerpiece of the Institute is its student program, known as LatinSummer, a summer enrichment program.
    National German Testing and Awards Program
    Each year the AATG writes a test to assess proficiency in German. Teachers nationwide can offer the exam to their students. The awards program has been around for 30 years and about 25,000 students take the exam each year.
    National Latin Exam
    The National Latin Exam is offered under the joint sponsorship of the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.They are pleased to announce the 2003 ACL/NJCL National Latin Exam. It is a national exam that all Latin students are eligible to take.

    For ages 4-8, this book includes lists of common Japanese words in a colorful format. The words are listed in Hiragana as well as English pronunciation.
    Guide to Learning Hiragana & Katakana: First Steps to Reading and Writing Japanese
    This book is an introduction to the two kana systems. The book covers origin and function, writing practice, pronunciation, and some vocabulary.
    Latin Primer, Books 1, 2, & 3
    This series by Martha Wilson is a simple, straightforward, traditional approach to Latin, with some adaptations for younger children, including chants and crossword puzzles. All assignments are clearly and directly presented. The series has a teacher's guide, which is purchased separately. Strong grammatical approach; almost no illustrations; some religious content.
    Minimus Pupil's Book: Starting Out in Latin
    This is a beginning Latin course for ages 7-10 with conversations between a family in Roman Britain (Vindolanda). With many illustrations, the book contains a mixture of stories and myths, grammar explanations and exercises, and background cultural information.

    En Famille
    This non-profit organization was established in France in 1978. It arranges long-term language immersion exchanges for students ages 9-16. American students are paired with a student of their own age in France, Spain, or Germany. After the two are matched, they spend a year together: six months in their own country, with their own family, and six months with their exchange partner’s family. Teens 14 and up can participate for a period of as short as three months.
    ISA High School
    ISA High School has been a leading provider of high-quality, affordable, cultural and language immersion programs for high school students since 1989. Their mission is to provide students with a transformative experience aimed at fostering independence, cross-cultural sensitivity and global citizenship. Based in Austin, Texas, ISA High School works closely with fully-accredited foreign universities and the ISA High School resident staff in each program location to provide cultural activities, tutoring services, language exchanges, volunteer opportunities, and numerous possibilities for improving language performance. Students earn college credit, experience another culture and explore the area around their program city through cultural excursions.
    ISL International School of Languages (Washington, DC)
    The International School of Languages currently provides Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, English, Farsi and Portuguese group classes for children. The program is based on the idea that this learning can be significantly enhanced through the use of music, creative and visual aids, games, variety in presentation, and a relaxed and fun-filled environment. They use various audio and visual elements that are complementary and inter-related so that the same vocabulary or element of grammar is practiced and reinforced in many different ways to create variety, encourage participation and avoid boredom.
    Renaissance Village Academy (San Diego, CA)
    The mission of Renaissance Village Academy is to provide gifted, profoundly gifted, and highly motivated students with the experiences and knowledge they will need to be successful navigating the complexities of the world from an international perspective.
    School Year Abroad
    School Year Abroad (SYA) is the only high school study abroad program which requires students to live with a European or Asian family for an entire academic year while earning U.S. high school graduation credits and preparing for selective U.S. colleges and universities. The central elements of SYA – the homestay and an academic program emphasizing foreign language acquisition – ensure that students return home with real mastery of a second language. At the same time, instructors from U.S. schools guarantee that they do not lose ground in their core American courses: math and English. Extracurricular activities and organized travel round out the year.

    Rosetta Stone provides up to five levels of instruction in select languages, beginning with a foundation of listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. With Rosetta Stone, students do more than learn about a language. They learn to use it.

    Abbey Road Programs
    Abbey Road Programs offers two-, three-, and four-week programs in the United States as well as Spain, France, Italy and other European countries. Abbey Road incorporates experiential learning in all daily classes. Student can learn and improve foreign language skills while interacting with locals during real-life situations; and lessons involving art, history and culture occur on-location throughout the host community. Students will live in either modern apartments, with host families, or hotels, depending upon the program choice.
    LatinSummer Rome
    For Students in Grades 5-8 (including homeschooled students) and their Parents to learn Latin in Rome during this summer enrichment program that brings the ancient Roman world to life. Explore the arena where gladiators and beasts fought long ago, race along the tracks of ancient chariots, perform a play on the same stage as ancient actors, approach Rome along the queen of roads, and much more! No prior knowledge of Latin or the Classics is required.
    University of Dallas - Latin in Rome Summer Program (TX)
    This program is not a simple summer tour, but rather, a rigorous program of intensive study of Latin. Latin in Rome is a college level Latin course and requires that you have taken three years of high school Latin prior to participation. During Latin in Rome students study classical texts and have the opportunity to earn three hours of college credit. Participants study passages from Cicero, Pliny, Vergil and Horace relevant to their travels. Students also read selected passages from these and other authors to enhance visits to sites in Rome and Naples. The academic program includes lectures by University of Dallas Classics faculty who have lived and taught in Rome, daily language tutorials, group discussions of texts, as well as guided visits to the historical sites and world famous museums in the vicinity.

    El Lago del Bosque - A Spanish Langue Village (Concordia Language Villages) (Moorhead, MN)
    This Spanish language summer camp offers several courses, including a two-week immersion summer program, a high school credit program and a college credit program.
    Summer Linguistics Institute for Youth Scholars (SLIYS) (Columbus, OH)
    Located at The Ohio State University, SLIYS is a weeklong summer language program for high school and pre-college students organized by the Department of Linguistics. SLIYS promotes foreign language study (including Spanish, Korean, French, Turkish, Chinese, and additional foreign languages) in all aspects by cultivating a deeper appreciation of language similarities and differences. The aim is to provide high school students with greater linguistic awareness and understanding, with the ability to think critically about language, and with a deeper appreciation for all aspects of language and language study.

    Concordia Language Villages - Concordia College (Moorhead, MN)
    Concordia Language Villages offers language immersion programs in 15 languages: Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Programs range from family camps, day camps for ages 6-11, one- and two-week overnight camps for ages 7-18 and four-week High School Credit programs, allowing students in grades 9-12 to earn one year of high school credit in only four week. Camps are located throughout northern Minnesota. Scholarships are available.

    Vermont Governor's Institute on Asian Cultures (Burlington, VT)
    This summer program about Asian Cultures is co-sponsored with the Asian Studies Program at the University of Vermont. Topics of lectures and workshops include Family and Society, Arts and Language, and Medicine and Health. These areas will be threads to link history, philosophy, religion, and political and economic development.

    Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) International Youth Camp
    Since 1985, Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) has been dedicated to the promotion of cultural understanding, academic development and world peace. This is a great site for summer camps abroad. CCI camps provide high quality supervision and many activities including a variety of sports, language classes, and social events. CCI Youth Camps are perfect for the young traveler or students wanting a more sports oriented program. Programs are available for students between the ages of 10 – 17 with beginning to advanced language abilities. Generally, several 2, 3 and 4 week sessions are available during the summer. Destinations for language camps include: Spain, Switzerland, and Italy.

    This site is a comprehensive news source entirely in Spanish.
    Cool School with Ms. Maria
    This mixed-media program is a fun, educational, entertaining upbeat music CD and video series for kids ages 3-8. These CDs and videos feature Spanish songs, counting songs, spelling songs, songs about manners, and a poetic story. They also feature everyday children from local communities interacting and learning with Ms. Maria. COOL SCHOOL WITH MS. MARIA is a program that offers children an opportunity to learn while providing entertainment to captivate their attention. It’s a fun, musical, educational tool for parents and teachers.

    This website was built to make human connections between language learners and language teachers. Italki now has a global community of over a million language learners and more than a thousand language teachers, studying over a hundred languages.     Learnables Foreign Language Program
    The Learnables is an auditory-based approach to learning a foreign language. The kit comes with a set of audiotapes and a booklet. No English is used at all; students learn the language through the foreign language tapes and, initially, accompanying pictures in the instructional booklet. After a student acquires some proficiency in the beginnings of the language, the booklets introduce words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs written in that language (still no English translation). Both beginning and intermediate courses are available.

    Lingostan is an online language learning platform. The site connects people who want to learn or improve foreign languages (students) with people who want to teach them ("tutors" or "teachers").     Spanish Multimedia offers a vast selection of videos in Spanish including Sesame Street, Barney, National Geographic, Disney, and family classics like The Wizard of Oz and Miracle on 34th Street.     ASLU is an online American Sign Language curriculum resource center. ASLU provides many free self-study materials, lessons, and information, as well as fee-based instructor-guided courses. Many instructors use the ASLU lessons as a free "textbook" for their local ASL classes.

    This is an online Comparison of Introductory Latin Programs from Martha Robinson at Homeschool Christian. This resource has book reviews on various Latin text books.
    Learn Spanish: A free online tutorial
    This site offers an extensive collection of free Spanish learning tools. The online tutorial/curriculum covers pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, verb drills and other topics.
    Lingolex.com
    One of the best online Spanish learning sites. The webmasters are English teachers living in Spain who have put together links and tools useful to student of Spanish.
    National Spanish Examinations (NSE)
    The National Spanish Examination is an online standardized assessment tool given throughout the United States. It measures vocabulary and grammar, listening comprehension and reading comprehension.

    Artes Latinae
    This CD-ROM package is a self-teaching Latin course, allowing multiple levels of students to utilize the program. There are two courses: Level I, which is equivalent to the first two years of high-school Latin and Level II, which is equivalent to the second two years.
    FrenchClasses.com
    FrenchClasses.com offers an exciting way to learn French. They have several products available including a CD-Rom, Phone Lessons, and Online Lessons. All of the classes are available for all level's from Beginner to Advanced.
    Jump Start Spanish
    This CD-Rom is great for young children just starting to learn Spanish. It teaches colors, numbers, body parts, and simple nouns in a fun and exciting format.
    KidSpeak 10-in1 Language Learning
    A set of 3 CD's that include 10 Languages: Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, Hebrew, Chinese, and Portuguese. Each language is taught by characters who use only the language being taught.
    Learn Latin Now! 9.0
    Learn Latin Now! 9.0 incorporates a variety of methods to learn Latin. In addition to the computer program speaking, you can speak into a microphone and check your pronunciation. For the beginner, it uses mythology, phrases and games, and includes more advanced Latin to further your learning.
    Muzzy - The BBC Language Course for Children
    This foreign langauge curriculum uses a mix of electronic media to reach young children. Muzzy the space traveler and his friends create a total learning environment to engage children, while still young enough to naturally learn a language.
    Nihongo-Pro.com
    This website is great for you if you do want a real, physical teacher who can Skype with you and help you learn Japanese at your own pace. Obviously, the previously mentioned sites are better if you want to learn 100% by yourself, but if you’re looking to learn Japanese with a teacher in the comfort of your own home, Nihongo-Pro.com is a good place to start.
    Power Japanese
    This is a Windows based supplement for formal Japanese lessons. It is a wonderful tool to help children (and adults) learn to recognize two of the Japanese alphabets. It has colorful graphics, animation, sound, and innovative drills and games. We have tried other CD-Roms, and this was the most helpful in learning the alphabets and learning about the Japanese language structure.
