Asynchronous development and sensory integration intervention in the gifted and talented population

Life in the asynchronous family
This article by Kathi Kearney discusses asynchronous development in highly gifted children and the resultant asynchrony the presence of such a child brings into the entire family dynamic. Vygotsky's theory of the zone of proximal development and the importance of language acquisition in cognitive development in the extremely gifted is also explored. Typical asynchronous family patterns in families of extremely gifted children are identified, and suggestions made for navigating these relatively uncharted waters.
