2024 Check In/Out

The drop off and pick up location is at the residence hall on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. The specific address will be shared with enrolled families prior to arrival. The arrival and departure options and timeframes for each program differ. Please see information below for your specific program.

    • We are unable to check students into the program early.
  •
    • A limited timeframe for arrival and departure is necessary due to staffing demands for program setup and breakdown. If there is an emergency that delays you, please call the emergency number provided prior to the program.
  •
    • We use a “kiss and go” check-in process. Outside of the dormitory building, our staff will be ready to help parent(s) and independent travelers check-in, drop off medications with the health supervisor, and label their luggage. After those steps are completed, it’s time to say goodbyes. A staff member will then accompany the participant into the dormitory building for group activities and unpacking.
  •
    • Due to campus construction, parking information will be shared closer to the program start date.
  •
    • Families are responsible for all transportation to and from the program and may secure their own refundable travel plans/insurance should they be interested.

STARS

All STARS participants must travel with and be signed-in and signed-out by a parent or legal guardian and are responsible for all transportation to and from the program. See check in/out times in the table below. If a parent or legal guardian is unable to accompany the participant to or from the program, arrangements can be made to appoint an adult over the age of 25 as the designated person responsible for check in and/or check out. These arrangements must be made in advance of travel and submitted in writing prior to arrival and/or departure.

Option 2: Travel Independently and Reserve Davidson Shuttle Service

A Davidson shuttle service is available (with a prior reservation) for $100/each way for REACH students traveling independently. Timing for the shuttle services is limited, and reservations are subject to approval by a staff member verifying independent traveler flight information.

    • This shuttle service does NOT provide unaccompanied minor pickup/dropoff, nor does it provide airport supervision. Each airline has different age requirements for unaccompanied minors, and families are responsible for securing flights for their student ONLY with an airline that allows them to travel independently at their age WITHOUT the unaccompanied minor service. Please reach out to our staff with any questions or clarifications about this policy.
    • Shuttles are for students traveling independently only. Parents are not permitted to ride the shuttle.
    • Prior to arrival, a staff contact number and designated meeting point near baggage claim will be provided. Students must have their own money and be able to grab their own snacks/lunch, baggage, and wait for our staff member at the meeting location. Students will be asked to contact parent(s) to confirm their safe arrival to Reno.
    • Upon departure, students will be dropped off at the check-in area. It is the participant’s responsibility to complete the check-in process, including making arrangements and payments for any checked baggage. Staff cannot assist with the check-in process, nor can they enter the ticketed passenger area for security purposes. Students will be asked to contact parent(s) to confirm they’ve made it to their gate.
      • REACH Shuttle Arrival: Sunday, June 23- Shuttles will begin taking trips from the airport to UNR tentatively starting no earlier than 1:30pm and may end no later than approximately 3:30pm. Specific timeframes will be provided to enrolled families with release of required forms.
      • REACH Shuttle Departure: Friday, June 28- Shuttles will begin taking trips from UNR to the airport tentatively starting no earlier than 9:30am and may end no later than approximately 11:00am. Specific timeframes will be provided to enrolled families with release of required forms.
      • When booking flights that correlate to shuttle times, please keep in mind that it can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to deplane and collect baggage at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Similarly, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport recommends travelers arrive to the airport a minimum of 2 hours prior to flight departure times. Tentative Davidson shuttle times reflect ground travel time. Therefore, student's flights need to have arrival/departure times that take into account deplaning/security wait times.
