2026 Davidson Fellow Maya Trutschl Featured in The Times of India for Pressure Injury Prevention Research

2026 Davidson Fellow Maya Trutschl was featured in The Times of India after receiving a $25,000 scholarship through the Davidson Fellows Scholarship Program. The article highlights Maya’s low-cost system that combines machine learning and thermal sensing to identify patients at risk of developing pressure injuries and alert caregivers when repositioning may be needed.

Designed to help detect risk before damage becomes visible, Maya’s work has the potential to support patient care in intensive-care units, long-term-care settings and home environments. Her thermal-sensing system costs less than $130 and demonstrated more than 99% accuracy in tracking patient positioning during testing in a hospital ICU.
