The Davdison Institute Team designed this guidebook for parents interested in addressing the needs of their exceptionally gifted
children. It is to be used as an organizational tool and informational guide to building a strong foundation for parent advocacy efforts. The information included is presented in a series of steps to prepare you for effective advocacy results.

InterGifted
InterGifted is an adult community and an adolescent community of nearly 1,000 gifted peers which also offers qualitative giftedness assessments, gifted coaching & mentoring, gifted therapy search & advocacy, workshops/courses, training for helping professionals working with gifted clients, and literature and advocacy on gifted personal development.
James T. Webb Scholarship for Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Conference
The James T. Webb Scholarship currently extends the opportunity for identified gifted and talented students from minority populations and their parents to participate in the SENG Annual Conference. Students attend the program for children or teens. Parents attend concurrent adult sessions.

This long-standing conference is held on the last Friday in February in Arvada, Colorado. Stoller Parent Coaching
As a collaborative, compassionate expert in the complexities of (un)identified gifted/2e families, Sheryl Stoller works to pragmatically equip parents to transform struggles into thriving, connected growth. In addition to coaching individuals and couples, she leads parent groups, staffings, workshops, and presentations.
Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Parent Groups
In 1981, SENG established guidelines for SENG Model Parent Support Groups. SENG Parent Groups are structured to bring together 10 to 20 interested parents of gifted and talented children to discuss such topics as motivation, discipline, stress management, and peer relationships. The groups meet weekly for a set number of weeks – usually 10 weeks. The Center for Talent Development (CTD), housed at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy, is an accredited learning center and research facility serving gifted students, their families and educators for nearly 30 years. Some of their programs include: the Midwest Talent Search, summer programs for pre-K through grade 12, Saturday enrichment programs for pre-K through grade 9, an Accelerated Weekend Experience (AWE), Gifted Learning Links for K through grade 12, a Civic Education Program for grades 7 through 12, scholarship programs for underrepresented students, and educator and parent programs.
University of Northern Colorado (UNC) - Center for the Education & Study of Gifted, Talented, Creative Learners (Greeley, CO)
The purpose of the Center is to support and promote all aspects of gifted and talented education, including three summer programs for children and youth. Parent Footprint
Dr. Dan Peters, Ph.D. and Payman Fazly have founded their project, Parent Footprint whose mission is to create a compassionate world with loving people, one parent and one child at a time. Project M3
Project M3, Mentoring Mathematical Minds, was a 5-year collaborative research effort of faculty at the University of Connecticut, Northern Kentucky University, and Boston University and teachers, administrators, and students in 10 schools of varying socioeconomic levels in Connecticut and Kentucky. A team of national experts in the fields of mathematics, mathematics education, and gifted education created a total of 12 curriculum units of advanced mathematics. This website, maintained by the University of Connecticut, provide smathematics education through a series of online learning units geared toward educators, students and parents.

The state of Maryland has adopted into law and the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Board of Education has adopted into its policy the key concepts of the defi nition of gifted and talented students originally stated in the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Act (1988). This guidebook meets that requirement of the state and county policy. It does so with the goal of helping to increase the number of students realizing their true potential.
