Helping 2e Students Follow Through

Davidson Gifted Perspectives is a video series that examines a number of different gifted-related issues and viewpoints.

During virtual events, the Family Services team here at Davidson is often conversing with families who are eager to help their Young Scholars enrich their education with independent studies, extracurricular classes, and in-depth hobbies. Many gifted children have tenacious energy when it comes to their passion projects but still struggle with executive function and follow-through because of their asynchronous development.

Parents in our community who come to this realization then wonder where to strike a balance. On the one hand, they want their students to develop resilience and follow through. On the other hand, learning when to pivot and what your own limitations are can also be useful life skills.

In this next clip our Director of Family Services shares her thoughts on how to help 2e students finish the projects that they start, and take meaningful bits from projects that they intentionally choose not to finish.
