Kindling (or Re-Kindling) a Love of Reading in Young Scholars

Davidson Gifted Perspectives is a video series that examines a number of different gifted-related issues and viewpoints.

Many of our Young Scholars have rich imaginations. That might look like constant inventing, always looking for jokes and wordplay, or an insatiable desire to put their ideas down onto the page. But they are also children, which might translate to interests that don’t always match what adults around them expect from them.

Recently in a Language arts focused virtual event, a family shared that their Young Scholar loves to read, write, and illustrate comic books—but that’s not translating to a love of reading and writing other stuff.

Our Director of Family Services shares her thoughts on this phenomenon and some tips that other parents have successfully used.
