Resisting Peer Pressure

Davidson Gifted Perspectives is a video series that examines a number of different gifted-related issues and viewpoints.

Profoundly Gifted and twice exceptional teens do face unique struggles, and at the end of the day, they are still children. So, along their journey, they might encounter peers in their school or friend circle pressuring them into behaviors that they aren’t sure about.

In the following clip, our Director of Family Services is talking to a family of a 10th-grade student about peer pressure from their varsity sports team to engage in risky behaviors like drinking, smoking, and sneaking out. Since the parent and Laurel both understand that it’s not always possible to completely avoid these people and situations, how can we teach PG/2e teens about their own limits and resisting peer pressure?
