Raising a Kid with Big Feelings Without Sheltering Them

Davidson Gifted Perspectives is a video series that examines a number of different gifted-related issues and viewpoints.

Recently, a family brought up a topic that we talk about in the Young Scholars program a lot. Many Young Scholars have an insatiable curiosity, unstoppable desires to learn, and interests that can be out of the box. These children are also often empathetic and sensitive to injustice, unfairness, or pain in the world. So, in the words of this family, how does one approach the balance between recognizing and accepting their sensitivity to the world, without sheltering them from the world?

In this clip, our Director of Family Services shares her thoughts on the situation, particularly for pre-adolescent students.
