While research is still evolving, some cognitive differences are hereditary; in other words, neurodiversity can run in the family. But each individual is unique, and how that neurodiversity manifests in one person is not the same as how it manifests in another—even if they are related. This came up in a recent virtual event when a parent asked about their daughter. Their 10-year-old son had recently been diagnosed as twice-exceptional. They’re wondering about his 12-year-old sister: Could she also be 2e? As the parent brought up, girls tend to mask more than boys. What should they be looking for?
