School Expectations and Twice Exceptional Students

Davidson Gifted Perspectives is a video series that examines a number of different gifted-related issues and viewpoints.

During a recent virtual event, a family wondered what to do about the expectations of their Young Scholar’s school. To give a little bit of detail, a few families ended up sharing that their twice exceptional students’ schools are dismissing their needs. In one case, a family shared that the school is dismissing the need for occupational therapy to accommodate dysgraphia on the basis that the child is academically performing above grade level. In another case, the school is dismissing the parents’ call for assessing their child. Here’s our Director of Family Services sharing some resources clarifying parents’ rights in situations like this.
